Gallery applications
Is your application appropriate?
We're getting a large number of unsolicited applications to exhibit at Cuckoo Cuckoo Contemporary Crafts Gallery, so please make sure that your work is appropriate to the gallery, before applying. The best way to do this is to visit the gallery in person, and view works on show. Our style is fresh, modern and a little quirky, with an emphasis on quality of making.
Once you've studied the work we already show, ask yourself whether your work is compatible with the work on display - is it of a similar style and quality?
What are your chances of success?
Even if you feel your work would sit well alongside the other work on show at Cuckoo Cuckoo in terms of the style and quality our customers are looking for, please understand that the gallery is small, and our exhibition timetable is crowded. We tend to work with key artists on an ongoing basis with a view to developing their careers, so commitments to our existing artists are considerable.
However, we do look at appropriate work, and occasionally take on new artists.
How to apply
Please do not try to make an appointment in the first instance. Although most art looks better face-to-face than in a reproduction, unfortunately, we don't have time to see everyone, so have an initial shortlisting process before we arrange to see artwork and meet the artist/maker.
To apply to be considered for the shortlist, please send the following by email to TheCuckooDesk@gmail.com or by post to Unit 1, Commercial Mews South, 42A Commercial Road, Eastbourne BN21 3XF:
• A maximum of six email/web resolution (NOT high resolution) images of your work
• Your cv
• (If necessary for returning CDR's of images) An SAE
We do try to reply to everyone, but due to the number of applications we receive for the gallery, at especially busy times, you may only receive a reply if you are shortlisted. If you haven't heard back from us within three weeks of your application, I'm sorry - this means you have been unsuccessful on this occasion.
Applications for the Eastbourne Artists' Open Studio exhibitions
We also run the Sussex Jewellery School in Eastbourne, and are always on the lookout for interesting work for the Cuckoo Cuckoo artists' open studio, held twice each year at the school in Eastbourne town centre.
If you work in ceramics, textiles, print-making or another medium, and would like to be considered for an exhibition or open studio show, please contact us via email to TheCuckooDesk@gmail.com, including your cv, and a couple of web-resolution images of your work (NOT high resolution, please).
Again, due to the number of applications we receive for the open studio shows, you may only receive a reply if you are shortlisted. If you haven't heard back from us within three weeks of your application, I'm sorry - this means you have been unsuccessful on this occasion.
